Tom Cruise Terrifies James Corden By Flying Him Around In A Vintage WWII Plane And A Modern Jet
Tom Cruise took The Late Late Show host James Corden on a ride he'll never forget.
Tom Cruise showed James Corden what it was like to be in the Danger Zone — by showing off his daredevil flying chops.
Appearing on Monday’s (May 23) The Late Late Show to promote Top Gun: Maverick, Cruise, 59, invited the British host, 43, to fly with him in two aircraft — one was a vintage WWII fighter plane, the other, a modern jet — and subjected him to some intense aerial stunts.
“I’m very excited that James is doing this, said Cruise, who got his pilot’s license in 1994, at the start of the 15-minute segment. “Was he the first late-night show I asked? Hell, no. He was just the first one… the only one who said yes.”
In the “75-year-old” plane, Cruise engaged in some nail-biting maneuvers, including a dogfight with another plane, that left Corden visibly terrified. Elsewhere, in the fighter jet, Cruise turned it upside-down, a move that had Corden shouting,“You absolute b******!”
Between the flights, Cruise conducted his version of a Top Gun training. “You are my Goose,” said Cruise mid-lesson, referring to Anthony Edwards' character in the 1986 classic. “When you say I am your Goose, it makes me feel excited and then I realise that Goose dies at the end of the film,” Corden replied.
After their flight school, Cruise told a stunned Corden: “You can be my wingman, anytime.” Corden, still reeling from the adrenaline rush, replied: “You know what? I think I’m good,”
Corden is no stranger to performing stunts with Cruise. In 2018, the pair went skydiving together to promote Cruise’s Mission: Impossible: Fallout.
