Tobey Maguire And Andrew Garfield To Appear Alongside Tom Holland In Spider-Man 3?

If this is true, then we just ruined what could’ve been the coolest surprise in ‘Spider-Man 3’.

Tobey Maguire And Andrew Garfield To Appear Alongside Tom Holland In Spider-Man 3?

Update: Responding to queries from ET Canada about the Spider-Man 3 casting, a Sony spokesperson said, "Those rumoured castings are not confirmed." Look closely: they didn't deny the reports, but merely said "not confirmed". Hmmm....

Rumour has it that the upcoming Spider-Man 3 will feature not one, not two, but three Web-slingers.

Early this month, the internet was buzzing with excitement after FandomWire reported that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were in talks to reprise their Spider-Man roles in in Tom Holland-led Spider-Man 3. On Tuesday (Oct 13), the same outlet claims an insider closely involved with the threequel has confirmed that Maguire and Garfield (sounds a folk pop duo) have inked the deal.

At time of writing this story, such signing hasn’t been officially announced by Sony Pictures. In other words, you should take the news with a pinch of salt till further notice.

When word got out that Doctor Strange, as played by Benedict Cumberbatch, will be joining Spider-Man 3, fans began speculating that the sequel will explore alternate dimensions and that’s how Peter Parker (Holland) will cross paths with the Master of the Mystic Arts — as well as the other incarnations of Spider-Man (Maguire and Garfield).

It’s said that the three Spideys will gang up in the final act to help defeat all of their combined foes.

So far the only Spider-Man characters from the non-Marvel Cinematic Universe confirmed for Spider-Man 3 is J Jonah Jameson (JK Simmons) from the Maguire canon, and Electro (Jamie Foxx) from the Garfield-fronted The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

The idea of having the three different Spider-Men in one movie was first suggested for the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. In May, IndieWire reported that the producers of the Oscar-winning animated feature wanted to bring together Maguire, Garfield and Holland (sounds like a law firm) but the studio balked at the pitch because “they felt it was too soon.”

Meanwhile, over at the DC Extended Universe, The Flash, starring Ezra Miller as the titular speedster, will meet two different versions Batman — one played by Ben Affleck, and the other, Michael Keaton from the Tim Burton films of the 1990s — as he crosses multiple timelines.
