Sex And The City Revival Confirmed; Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis & Cynthia Nixon To Return Without Kim Cattrall

It’s official! Sex and the City is getting revived for a new generation of viewers — and some old fans as well.

Original cast members Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis made the announcement Sunday (Jan 10) on Instagram.

The limited series, coming to HBO Max, is called And Just Like That… will see Parker, Nixon and Davis reprising their respective roles of Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes and Charlotte Davis.

“I couldn’t help but wonder... where are they now? X, SJ @HBOMax@JustLikeThatMax#AndJustLikeThat #SATCNextChapter,” Parker shared on Instagram alongside the teaser.

In the video, Parker could be heard typing away at her computer: “And just like that...” appearing on the screen, followed by “the story continues...”

The 10-part half-hour series will follow Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte as they navigate love and friendship in their 50s. It is slated to begin production in New York late spring.

“I grew up with these characters, and I can’t wait to see how their story has evolved in this new chapter, with the honesty, poignancy, humour and the beloved city that has always defined them,” Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max, said in a statement.

The original Sex and the City — based on Candace Bushnell’s 1997 book of the same name — premiered on HBO in 1998 and ran for six seasons until 2004. It spawned two features — 2008’s Sex and the City: The Movie and 2010’s Sex and the City 2 — a prequel series, The Carrie Diaries, starring AnnaSophia Robb, in 2013. A third movie was ditched in 2017.

Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha Jones in the original series, is sitting out the reboot. Cattrall has a very public falling out with Parker especially after she turned down Sex and the City 3. In a 2019 interview with The Guardian, she claimed that she had allegedly faced “bullying” when she declined the threequel. “I couldn’t understand why they wouldn’t just replace me with another actress instead of wasting time bullying,” she added. “No means no."

But seriously, can Sex and the City still be Sex and the City without Samantha Jones? At time of writing, it’s not known if Samantha will be recast or written out of the revival.

Meanwhile, yo can catch all six seasons of Sex and the City and Sex and the City: The Movie on HBO Go (or via meWATCH). Download the HBO Go app at App Store or Play Store and get a 7-day free trial.
