The Scream Reboot Official Title Revealed... And It's Still Called Scream

The highly anticipated Scream reboot is now officially called Scream.

Not Scream 5. Not Scream Again. Not Screen Reborn. Not Scream: The Next Generation. Just simply Scream. Like the first movie, which came out nearly 24 years ago. (It was released on Dec 20, 1996.)

The title was revealed Wednesday (Nov 18) by Kevin Williamson, the writer of the original meta-slasher on social media, where he also announced that production on the fifth Scream instalment has completed its two-month shoot in North Carolina.

“That’s a wrap on Scream, which I’m excited to announce is the official title of the next film!,” Williamson, 55, wrote. “Nearly 25 years ago, when I wrote Scream and Wes Craven brought it to life, I could not have imagined the lasting impact it would have on you, the fans. I’m excited for you to return to Woodsboro and get really scared again. I believe Wes would’ve been so proud of the film that Matt and Tyler are making.

“I’m thrilled to be reunited with Neve, Courteney, David and Marley, and to be working alongside a new filmmaking team and incredible cast of newcomers that have come together to continue Wes’s legacy with the upcoming relaunch of the franchise that I hold so dear to my heart. See you in theatres January 2022.”

Williamson also shared a photo of the Scream title as well as a picture of him with the iconic Ghostface killer and another one with stars Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox.

Scream, the new one that is, also stars David Arquette, Marley Shelton and 13 Reasons Why’s Dylan Minnette. Ready or Not directors Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet are at the helm, with Williamson as one of the executive producers.

Scream is slated to open in the US on January 14, 2022.
