Ryan Gosling says Ken doll's life in the upcoming Barbie movie in the doldrums.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Gosling, 41, says his Ken doll is going through a rougher time than his on-the-run assassin character in the Netflix actioner The Gray Man

"That Ken life is even harder than the Gray Man life, I think," Gosling said of his character in the still-in-production Barbie movie, in which he stars alongside Magot Robbie.

"Ken's got no money, he's got no job, he's got no car, he's got no house. He's going through some stuff."

The La La Land star refused to give much away about Barbie for fear of Mattel coming after him.

He joked: "I can't wait for people to see the film. That's all I can say. Otherwise, Mattel will come in and box me up."

In The Gray Man, Gosling plays CIA mercenary Court Gentry, codename Sierra Six, who is hunted by a team of hitmen, including one portrayed by a mustachioed Chris Evans.

On what drew him to The Gray Man, Gosling said, "You know, I always wanted to make an action film, because they made me fall in love with movies. It just took me a long time to find the right one, you know?"

He added, "[This movie] is like the films I grew up loving. It has like the '80s and '90s action films [vibe], it’s fun, the character's [have a] sense of humor about the situations. It's an escapist movie.

"And I really liked the character. It was like a spy who doesn't want to be a spy, who rather be at home watching Netflix like the rest of us. You know, he doesn’t want to have anything to do with this, but he has to. So it made an interesting life, and it made him an interesting character to play."

The Gray Man premieres on Netflix on July 22, while Barbie opens in cinemas in July 2023.
