Russell Crowe Slams Twitter Troll For Calling His Movie Boring: “Kids These Days”

Russell Crowe tore a Twitter troll a new one for slighting his 2003 period war drama Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World.

On Sunday (Jan 17), the Oscar-winning actor responded to a seeming innocuous tweet suggesting that the film cures insomnia.

“Lots of folk complaining about lack of sleep during the Pandemic. May I recommend Master And Commander starring the usually captivating, attention-grabbing Russell Crowe,” Twitter user Ian McNabb wrote alongside a photo of Crowe in the film. “I’ve never made it past the ten minute mark. You’re welcome. And thanks Russell.”

In other words, he thought the movie, which also starred Paul Bettany, was boring.

For some reason, McNabb, an English musician and former frontman of 1980s New Wave band The Icicle Works, tagged Crowe in the post as well. The dude was clearly jonesing for a reaction (or some publicity) — and he got one. And then some.

“That’s the problem with kids these days. No focus,” Crowe replied. “Peter Weirs film is brilliant. An exacting, detail oriented, epic tale of fidelity to Empire & service, regardless of the cost. Incredible cinematography by Russell Boyd & a majestic soundtrack. Definitely an adults movie.”

Master and Commander was nominated for 10 Oscars at the 76th Academy Awards in 2004, including Best Picture and Best Director. It won Best Cinematography and Best Sound Editing.

Crowe’s reply led many Netizens coming to the movie’s defense. Among the supporters include Beauty and the Beast’s Josh Gad who called the seafaring epic “the perfect movie”.
