Ruby Rose’s decision to quit Batwoman on Tuesday may have come as a big surprise for fans of the series but for the behind-the-scenes folks, it wasn’t.

Citing anonymous multiple sources, Variety reported that Rose, 34, wasn’t thrilled with the long working hours. This led to friction on the set which ultimately led to Rose and the network and studio, Warner Bros Television, going their separate ways.

The article didn't say how long she had to be on set, but actors typically have a 15-16 hours work-day on an American serialised drama. And if you’re the lead, like Rose, you’re expected to clock up longer hours.

When news of Rose’s exit broke, speculation was rife that it was connected to Rose’s emergency surgery for two herniated discs last year. An earlier Variety report said her exit “had nothing do with her health or injury”.

Batwoman, which was renewed for Season 2 in January, revolves around Kate Kane (Rose), Bruce Wayne’s cousin and an out lesbian who helps out with the family business as the vigilante-protector of Gotham City.

The series marked the first lead role of Rose’s career. The Australian model-turned-actress has previously appeared in supporting roles on Orange is the New Black and in such movies as Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, Pitch Perfect 3 and xXx: The Return of Xander Cage.

Following Rose’s departure, Warner Bros Television and Berlanti Productions issued a statement, saying that they would be seeking “a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months.”
