Ricky Gervais has weighed in on James Corden's PR woes over his recent restaurant ban.

The Late Late Show host was on Monday (Oct 17) banned by New York City restaurant owner Keith McNally for being abusive to staff in two incidents. The ban was subsequently lifted after Corden "profusely apologised" to McNally.

Gervais poked fun at the incident by sharing on Twitter a scene from his Netflix dramedy After Life, where his character, Tony, mocks the idea of James Corden being a dream dinner guest.

Gervais added the comment to the clip: “James f****** Corden @afterlife. Worst. Dinner party. Ever.”

In the scene, Tony is asked by colleague Kath (played by Diane Morgan) who would he invite, dead or alive to a dinner party.

Kath: "Number one James Corden. We could do carpool karaoke. That man can do anything. I know the cool kids don't like him but he never stops working. He's a grafter like me."

But Tony begs to differ.

On Monday, McNally posted two examples online of Corden's’ “extremely nasty” behaviour, including one incident in which he demanded free drinks after he found a hair in his main course.

McNully, who has a history of booting celebrities from his eateries, also branded Corden a “tiny cretin of a man” and said he was the “most abusive customer ever”.

He later added on Instagram Corden’s ban had been lifted after an apology, saying: “James Corden just called me and apologised profusely... having f***** up myself more than most people, I strongly believe in second chances. So if James Corden lets me host his ‘Late Late Show’ for 9 months, I’ll immediately rescind his ban from Balthazar.

“No, of course not. But... anyone magnanimous enough to apologise to a deadbeat layabout like me (and my staff) doesn’t deserve to be banned from anywhere.”
