Park Seo-Joon To Join Brie Larson In Captain Marvel Sequel: Reports

'The Marvels’ is slated to open in Nov 2022.

There are reports circulating that Park Seo-Joon has joined the cast of the Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels.

Soompi reported that the 32-year-old Korean actor, best known for his roles in the Netflix drama Itaewon Class and the exorcism horror The Divine Fury, will head to the US “in the second half of this year” for filming after he’s done with his current project, the disaster thriller Concrete Utopia.

Filming on The Marvels reportedly started last month under Candyman director Nia DaCosta, the first Black woman to helm a Marvel Studios movie.

Brie Larson is reprising the role of Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel. Per IMDB, the cast (so far) also includes Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani and Zawe Ashton. The movie is slated to open in the US on Nov 11, 2022. Plot details of the sequel are under wraps. It’s Marvel Studios, remember?

And if you know Marvel, they love to play things close to their superhero vest. Take Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings for instance. Even though some of the actors (Fala Chen, Michelle Yeoh and Ronny Chieng) were spotted on the set, Marvel only publicly acknowledged their involvement months after production wrapped.

So until Park’s casting is officially confirmed by Marvel (from president Kevin Feige himself preferably), it’s just a rumour. And if there’s any truth to the news, Park will be the third Korean actor to star in a Marvel movie, following Claudia Kim in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ma Dong-Seok aka Don Lee in Eternals.

Candyman opens in Singapore cinemas on Aug 26, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Sep 2 and Eternals Oct 28.
