Nicole Kidman Surprises Hugh Jackman With S$137K Bid For His Music Man Hat In Charity Auction

Nicole Kidman bid US$100,000 (S$137,300) for Hugh Jackman's hat used in the Broadway show The Music Man.

Kidman attended The Music Man at New York's Winter Garden Theatre on Saturday (Nov 26) and surprised both audiences and Jackman by taking part in an auction where she forked out US$100,000 for Jackman's hat from the show.

The auction was for the charity Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids

After successfully winning Jackman's piece of costume, the Aquaman actress walked up to the stage to collect the item and said into the microphone, "I love you and I love Broadway. And I love what they do at Broadway Cares. But also, what I want to say is that the show was extraordinary," Kidman said into the microphone.

"Nic! I just want to be clear, this is not Australian dollars," Jackman joked.

Following the bidding, Jackman tweeted, "The generosity emanating from #NicoleKidman leaves me speechless! You ARE amazing. Thank you for your friendship and support!"(sic)

Upon returning home after the show — which is due to close in January after a run of just over a year — Kidman showed the hat off to her 8.7 million Instagram followers as she acknowledged Jackman and his Music Man co-star Sutton Foster before bidding them goodnight.

"The hat we bought at the auction. NIGHT NIGHT"(sic)," she wrote.

When Kidman noticed the words the Wolverine star had written about her on Twitter, she wrote on Instagram: "Darling Hugh, to my friend of 30 years. Right back at you such a generous, gorgeous man, it was a brilliant night in the theatre and an honor to be able to donate to @bcefa! + Congratulations to the talented cast."

“I’ve known Nic for almost 30 years. I’ve worked with her. I can tell you this is not a surprise to me. She is one of the most generous souls I know,” Jackman said on stage. “You’re a beautiful person. I love you. Thank you for your generosity.”

Jackman and Kidman have worked a couple of times, including Baz Luhrmann's 2008 movie Australia and George Miller's Happy Feet films where they voiced penguin parents. — BANG SHOWBIZ
