Bad News For Morbius Fans: Jared Leto's Marvel Movie Is Pushed Back To April

'Morbius' is supposed to be out in cinemas on Jan 27. Well, not anymore. Thank you, Omicron!

Bad News For Morbius Fans: Jared Leto's Marvel Movie Is Pushed Back To April

Morbius has been pushed back by three months.

The Sony Pictures movie — which will feature Jared Leto as the titular Spider-Man villain — is now expected to drop on April 1, 2022. (The movie is slated to open in Singapore on Jan 27; it's currently undated.)

The Daniel Espinosa-helmed movie Morbius has been delayed a few times before. It was first due to open on July 10, 2020 and then July 31. But the worsening COVID-19 pandemic pushed it back to March 19, 2021 and then again to Oct 8, 2021. But in January last year, the studio pushed it to January 21, 2022. It was later moved to a week further, on January 28th.

The latest (and hopefully the last) shift is a response to the surge in Omicron strain.

In the US, Morbius' latest release date will see it go up against Easter Sunday, a comedy starring Tiffany Haddish and Jimmy O Yang, and The Contractor, a thriller headlined by Chris Pine.

In Morbius, Leto plays Michael Morbius, who attempts a desperate gamble in order to treat a rare blood disease that connects him to the darkness inside of him as he finds himself becoming a vampire. Morbius is part of the batch of Spider-Man-related characters — including Venom — that Marvel licensed out to Sony in a deal that pre-dates the comic book company's move to making movies and its subsequence acquisition by Disney.

Even though Morbius isn't produced by Marvel Studios, it is still linked to the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Michael Keaton, who plays the Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming, makes an appearance. But here's the thing: Morbius is also part of Sony's Spider-Man Universe. In one trailer, Morbius is reading J Jonah Jameson's (J K Simmons) Daily Bugle and it also referenced the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home.

So what's going on? Maybe this is what happens you mess with the multi-verse. We'll find out what exactly happened when Morbius in three months' time. — BANG SHOWBIZ
