Mira Sorvino Once Did A Love Scene With Her Cousin In An Early Short Film: “It Was Very Weird”

This happened back in 1993.

Mira Sorvino Once Did A Love Scene With Her Cousin In An Early Short Film: “It Was Very Weird”

Mira Sorvino once did a sex scene with her cousin. Oh, boy, that’s something you don’t hear very often — unless you live in Westeros.

The 54-year-old Oscar winner dropped this little factoid during Vulture Festival’s live-watch of Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, in which her real-life cousin, actor Rick Pasqualone, appeared in the 1997 movie as the boyfriend of Michele’s (Lisa Kudrow) drama-club teenage club teenage crush.

Per Vulture, Sorvino said she and her cuz had previously shared a sex scene early in their careers in The Dutch Master, a 1993 erotic short film directed by Susan Seidelman, best known for Desperately Seeking Susan and Sex and the City.

“He and I did a short film together,” she said. “It was my first short film, called The Dutch Master. It got nominated for an Oscar. We actually played fiancés and we had a sex scene, which was very weird, as he’s my cousin. He’s a very nice guy. A handsome guy.”

Back in the day: Mira Sorvino in a scene from the 1993 short film, 'The Dutch Master'.

Here's the synopsis of the 28-minute long The Dutch Master, according to IMDB: “Teresa is not like her female colleagues. She cannot enjoy that kind of simple-minded pleasure like watching males stripping. There is that Dutch painting in the museum she is fascinated of. Over and over she sits in front of it just staring at the young Dutch guy on it. One day the scenery on the painting becomes alive…” Okay...

And yes, Teresa is played by Sorvino. And yes, The Dutch Master was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Short Film, Live Action category. So, it's totally legit. (Footnote to self: if 8days.sg ever get to interview her, ask her to elaborate further, inquiring minds need to know.)

Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion is now streaming on Disney+.
