Apple TV+ has, er, dropped the trailer for the nine-episode World War II drama hailing from Band of Brothers and The Pacific executive producers Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.
Per press release, Masters of the Air follows follows the men of the 100th Bomb Group — the “Bloody Hundredth” — as they conduct perilous bombing raids over Nazi Germany and grapple with the frigid conditions, lack of oxygen and sheer terror of combat conducted at 25,000 feet in the air.
Butler and Keoghan play bomber pilots Major Gale Cleven and Lt. Curtis Biddick, respectively.
“Masters of the Air is a salute to the brave men of the 8th Air Force, who, through their courage and brotherhood, helped defeat Nazi Germany in World War II,” said executive producer Gary Goetzman in a press statement. “Tom and Steven have always wanted to visualise cinematically what our author Don Miller has called, this ‘singular event in the history of warfare.’
The mini-series is based on Donald L Miller’s 2007 non-fiction book Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought the War Against Nazi Germany.
Captain Marvel’s Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck and No Time to Die’s Cary Joji Fukunaga directed selected episodes.
Masters of the Air will launch with a double-episode premiere on Jan 26, 2024, with new episodes dropping each Friday until the season finale on March 15. Watch the trailer here:
