More Killer Doll Mayhem Coming: M3GAN Sequel Set For 2025

The US$12 million Blumhouse horror has earned nearly US$100 million worldwide since its release early this month.

More Killer Doll Mayhem Coming: M3GAN Sequel Set For 2025

The M3GAN sequel is officially in the works.

M3GAN 2.0, a follow-up to the hit horror, about an AI doll named M3GAN, short for Model 3 Generative Android — who develops chilling self-awareness, is slated to hit cinemas on January 17, 2025.

Per Variety, writer Akela Cooper will once again pen the script while Allison Williams and Violet McGraw will reprise their roles as Gemma, M3GAN's inventor and the titular plaything, respectively.

It's not known if director Gerard Johnstone will be back at the helm or if M3GAN portrayers Amie Donald or Jenna Davis will reprise the role.

Jason Blum, who produced M3GAN with James Wan (The Conjuring), said he knew he wanted to make a sequel even the movie was released.

He told Variety: "After I first saw the movie, we had a good sense that a sequel might really work. So, we broke our cardinal rule and we started talking about a sequel before the movie was released.

"I felt so bullish that we started entertaining a sequel earlier than we usually do."

Since its global rollout early this month, M3GAN, which also stars Ronny Chieng, has grossed US$96 million (S$127 mil) on a reported US$12 million budget. Besides a sequel, Blumhouse is reportedly working on an unrated version of the first movie which, according to Cooper (via The Los Angeles Times), promises to be "way gorier" than the PG-13 theatrical cut.
