It looks like the producers of the upcoming Kung Fu pilot reboot has found their lead.

According to Deadline, Olivia Liang has been cast as the lead of the 1970s David Carradine-starring TV series.

Liang will play Nicky Chen, “a young Chinese-American experiencing a quarter-life crisis. She drops out of college and goes on a life-changing journey to an isolated monastery in China. But when she returns to find her hometown overrun with crime and corruption, she uses her martial arts skills and Shaolin values to protect her community and bring criminals to justice… all while searching for the assassin who killed her.”

Tzi Ma and Tan Kheng Hua (or Kheng Hua Tan as she’s known in Hollywood) will play her parents.

Kung Fu will mark the first TV lead role for Liang who has a recurring role on Legacies, The Vampire Diaries spin-off. She has also appeared on Hulu’s horror anthology Into the Dark, Grey’s Anatomy, and Netflix’s One Day at a Time.
