Kim Cattrall To Return As Samantha Jones (Briefly) In And Just Like That Season 2 Finale

It’s a reunion (sorta) no one saw coming.

“Only Nixon could go to China,” as the Vulcan proverb goes.

It looks like Kim Cattrall has softened her stance on reprising her role as publicist powerhouse Samantha Jones: she’ll appear in the Season 2 finale of And Just Like That, the sequel to Sex and the City series and movies.

But before fans break out the champagne, they should know that Samantha will only turn up in one scene only.

Per Variety, Cattrall filmed the scene on March 22 in New York City, without seeing or speaking with the rest of the ensemble, including Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie), Cynthia Nixon (Miranda) and Kristen Davis (Charlotte) or with And Just Like That showrunner Michael Patrick King.

To recap, the Season 1 finale of And Just Like That saw Carrie and the London-based Jones making plans, via texting, to see each other and patch things up.

The Season 2 scene is said to be a phone conversation between Carrie and Samantha (making another round of plans to meet up again?). The episode will be out in August.

Clearly, there’s still bad blood between Cattrall and Parker. The two had a public fallout after a third Sex and the City movie failed to materialise and Cattrall claimed she was never asked to be part of And Just Like That, which was launched in 2021 to mixed reactions

Parker previously said that she would be uncomfortable if Cattrall were to return as Samantha. "I don't think I would [be okay], because I think there's just to much public history of feelings on her part that she's shared," she told Variety in 2022.

The 11-ep Season 2 will also mark the return of another familiar face: John Corbett’s Aidan Shaw, the carpenter whom Carrie dated in Season 3 of Sex and the City. The couple broke up after she cheated on Aiden with Mr Big (Chris Noth).

And Just Like That returns on HBO Go with two episodes on June 22, the remaining nine will be dropped on subsequent Thursdays.

This must be the season for (studio-sanctioned?) pre-launch bombshells.

First, news of Dwayne Johnson’s cameo in Fast X broke even before the movie was out. Then, The Flash director Andy Muschietti shared that Nicolas Cage will pop up as Superman (a role he was meant to play in Tim Burton’s failed Superman Lives). And now this?

Thanks for ruining the surprises.
