Jay-Z Only Learnt To Swim When Daughter Blue Ivy Was Born: “That Was The Beginning Of Our Relationship”

Jay-Z only learnt to swim when his daughter Blue Ivy was born in 2012.

The hip-hop veteran — who also has three-year-old twins Rumi and Sir with wife Beyoncé — has revealed he couldn't swim until his first child was born, and only had lessons then because he wanted to make sure that when his little girl started swimming, that he would be able to rescue Blue, nine, if she ever got into any trouble in the water.

Speaking on LeBron James' HBO series The Shop: Uninterrupted, the rapper said of parenthood: "It's amazing. It's a very grounding thing.

"I didn't learn how to swim until Blue was born.

"There goes everything you need to know. This is a metaphor for our relationship.

If she ever fell in the water and I couldn't get her, I couldn't even fathom that thought. I gotta learn how to swim. That's it. That was the beginning of our relationship."

Meanwhile, Jay-Z, 51, recently opened up about the hard work he and his 'Crazy in Love' hitmaker wife, 39, have put into the marriage and how "proud" he is of the father and husband he has become.

Jay — who tied the knot with the former Destiny's Child star in 2008 — said: "I have a beautiful wife who was understanding and knew I am not the worst of what I've done.

"We did the hard work of going to therapy, we love each other. We really put in the work for years. This music I'm making now is a result of things that have happened already. Like you, I like to believe that we're in a better place today, but still working and still communicating and growing. I'm proud of the father and the husband I am today because of all the work that was done." — BANG SHOWBIZ
