Hugh Grant thinks his ex-girlfriend Elizabeth Hurley should be considered for a role in the next Paddington movie.

Grant, 60, jokingly made the pitch after Hurley, 55, shared on her socials a picture of herself holding up two jars of marmalade. “Lockdown has turned me into a demented housewife: 47 jars of marmalade are nestling in my harder and another sack of Seville oranges await me,” she wrote on Monday (Jan 18).

Grant then retweeted the post and wrote, “Paddington 3.”

The beloved children’s character Paddington Bear is known for his fondness for marmalade. In 2014, the Paddington books inspired a live action, which spawned a sequel in 2017, starring Grant as the flamboyant villain Phoenix Buchanan.

Grant and Hurley were together for 13 years before calling it quits in 2000 and have been close pals ever since.

On The Jess Cagle Interview in 2018, the Undoing star said of their relationship, “We’re like brother and sister. I think it’s partly because we went from zero to somewhere together, and we went through terrible years at the beginning when neither of us had any work, living in a tiny flat. It was quite bonding.”

For Hurley, she still considers Grant as her ‘go-to-person’ for career advice. In an interview with People magazine in October, she said, “The last time I spoke to Hugh would be this morning. I speak to him quite a lot. I was asking him his advice on a script I just received.

“I still go to him for advice on scripts, even though he’s very happily married with five children and I’m very happy in my own life, there’s still certain bits we crossover with very well.”

Back in the day: When Hugh Grant and Elizabeth Hurley were an item, circa 1998.

Grant is the godparent to Damian Hurley, the 18-year-old son Hurley shared with late producer Steve Bing, who died in June 2020. Grant married TV producer Anna Eberstein in 2018. He shares three kids with his wife and has two children with ex Tinglan Hong.

In 2020, Digital Spy reported that a third Paddington movie is being developed but it won’t involve original director Paul King. He said, “At some point, you just have to stop. It might be time for somebody else to do a twist on it. I’m trying not to do a third bear movie, which is a huge, huge mistake.”

Maybe Elizabeth Hurley is that twist the franchise needed?
