First Look: Mel Gibson In John Wick Prequel Series The Continental, Coming To Amazon Prime Video
Prepare to check into The Continental in September.
The Continental is back in business.
Prime Video has shared a first look at the characters and cast of The Continental: From The World of John Wick, premiering on the streaming service in September.
The three-part prequel series to the Keanu Reeves-led films tells the origin story of the eponymous New York hotel, which is also a sanctuary for assassins in the John Wick lore. (It was destroyed in John Wick: Chapter 4.)
Set in the 1970s, the show looks at the Continental’s early days as seen through the eyes of a young Winston Scott (played by Ian McShane in the four John Wick movies) and explores his friendship with Charon (made famous by the late Lance Riddick) and his move up the ranks of management.
Director and executive producers Albert Hughes (who made From Hell and The Book of Eli with his twin brother Allen) said, in a statement, fans will love The Continental “because like the Wick films, it’s a wild, fun ride and it’s unique, it’s colourful, it’s bold, it’s sonic, it has a cast of characters that you’re not going to find in normal movies.”
The Continental isn’t the only John Wick spin-off. There’s also Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, due in cinemas next year.
The original John Wick movie was launched in 2014. It spawned three sequels, with a fourth one currently in development.
