Dwayne Johnson’s Jungle Cruise To Debut In Cinemas And On Disney+ Premier Access On July 30

Moviegoers have the option of catching Jungle Cruise either in the cinemas or in the comfort of their living room.

The family adventure, inspired by the Disneyland theme park ride of the same time and starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, will drop on July 30 simultaneously in cinemas and Disney+ Premier Access.

Jungle Cruise, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows), is the latest Disney movie to adopt the dual-platform strategy this year. Others include Raya and the Last Dragon (in March), Cruella (May 27, theatrical; May 28, Premier Access), and Black Widow (July 8, theatrical; TBA, Premier Access). Premier Access titles come with a S$38.98 rental fee.

Johnson shared Jungle Cruise’s release plan on his social media channels, in a — surprise, surprise — a post-workout video.

“Now that we are coming out of COVID slowly, we’ve got to own this rebound,” he said. “We’ve got to get back out there. Live the life that we want to live. Get out in theatres, watch our movies as safe as possible. But also Jungle Cruise is a unique experience and it gives us a unique opportunity to allow everyone around the world to watch the movie how they want to watch the movie.”

He also wrote, “The most important thing with our movie was to ALWAYS take care of families around the world by giving you options to watch it.”

Per the official synopsis: Disney’s Jungle Cruise is an adventure-filled, rollicking thrill-ride down the Amazon with wisecracking skipper Frank Wolff (Dwayne Johnson) and intrepid researcher Dr. Lily Houghton (Emily Blunt). Lily travels from London, England to the Amazon jungle and enlists Frank’s questionable services to guide her downriver on La Quila —his ramshackle-but-charming boat. Lily is determined to uncover an ancient tree with unparalleled healing abilities — possessing the power to change the future of medicine. Thrust on this epic quest together, the unlikely duo encounters innumerable dangers and supernatural forces, all lurking in the deceptive beauty of the lush rainforest. But as the secrets of the lost tree unfold, the stakes reach even higher for Lily and Frank and their fate—and mankind’s—hangs in the balance.
