Disney Announces New Star Wars Slate, Including One Movie From Wonder Woman Director Patty Jenkins
Most of it are bound for Disney+.
A Star Wars movie from Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkin and the return of Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader are among the highlights revealed during Disney’s Investor Day on Thursday (Dec 10).
At the presentation, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy outlined the Star Wars line-up in various stages of development, of which two are features and the rest are Disney+ series. To date, Disney — which acquired the franchise from George Lucas in 2012 — has released five Star Wars feature films and one Disney+ series The Mandalorian.
Here’s a rundown of what’s coming from a galaxy far, far away…
/Rogue Squadron
Wonder Woman helmer Patty Jenkin will direct this movie following the fight pilots Star Wars universe. It’s slated for Christmas 2023.
A limited series about Lando Calrissan from Dear White People creator Justin Simien. The character was originally played by Billy Dee Williams (The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker) and later Donald Glover (Solo).
/The Acolyte
Female-centric mystery-thriller series set in the final days of the High Republic era from Russian Doll creator Lesley Headland.
/Star War: The Bad Batch
Animated follow-up to the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
/ Star Wars: Visions
An anthology collection of short films set in the Star Wars universe from 10 different Japanese anime creators. Set to debut in 2021.
An animated series about R2-D2 and C-3PO, from Lucasfilm Animation and Industrial Light & Magic.
