Deadpool Makes MCU Debut (Sort Of) In Free Guy Promo: “I Honestly Thought The Movie Came Out A Year Ago”
It looks like a very expensive promo for 'Free Guy'.
Deadpool is officially in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sorta. Kinda.
On Tuesday (July 13), Ryan Reynolds shared a YouTube video, ‘Deadpool and Korg’, in which Reynold’s Wade Wilson aka The Merc with a Mouth and Taika Waititi’s made-of-rock Korg from Thor: Ragnarok react to the trailer of the upcoming action-comedy Free Guy, which happens to star Reynolds and Waititi.
“It looks fun in a last-days-of-Fox fire sale kinda way,” says Deadpool, referencing Disney’s 2019 acquisition of 20th Century Fox (now called 20th Century Studios), the previous owner of the X-Men and Deadpool movie rights.
Elsewhere, in the four-a-half-minute promo, Deadpool also confirmed that his third movie is in the works — the first to be produced by Marvel Studios and its president Kevin Feige — but not before calling Reynolds the ‘Canadian Cumberbatch’.
In November, Marvel tapped Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin and Wendy Molyneux, the sibling best known for their work on Bob’s Burgers, to pen Deadpool 3. No director is yet to be attached to the threequel.
At the end of the video, Deadpool asked the CG-ed Korg for some advice on joining the MCU. “Have a dream, chase it, lose that dream, just sabotage all sorts of happiness in pursuit of that dream, climb up to the peaks of that mountain and when you get to the top, land at the bottom and realise you’re never going to achieve that dream, and at that point check your e-mails,” Korg quipped. “Maybe you’ll get something from your agents saying Marvel wants to talk.”
Reynolds also shared the video on Instagram and wrote, “DP is officially in the MCU! He’s starting with reaction videos, then some social influencer work, onto Parks appearances all leading up to some after-credit work by 2030.”
