Christopher Nolan’s Inception Marks 10th Anniversary With IMAX Re-release On Aug 13

Christopher Nolan’s mind-bending sci-fi epic Inception is heading back to the big screen for its 10th anniversary with a two-week engagement in IMAX and standard 2D from Aug 13. It will be screened at 24 cineplexes.

Inception was supposed to come out on July 30, the release date originally meant for Nolan’s latest offering, Tenet, starring John David Washington and Robert Pattinson. But uncertainty over the COVID-19 pandemic forced the studio, Warner Bros, to push back Tenet several times. It'll now be out globally from Aug 26; Singapore will release it on Aug 27.

Released in July 2010 (15th to be exact), Inception stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a professional thief planning a heist in someone’s mind. A critical and commercial hit, the movie was nominated for eight Oscars, winning four, including Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects.

The re-release will include a sneak peek from Tenet as well as other upcoming Warner Bros titles. (Can we expect a sizzle reel featuring Wonder Woman 1984, The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It and Dune?)

Inception isn’t the only ‘old’ movie being re-released. When cinemas reopen on July 13, the only blockbuster that will bring audiences back en masse is the Korean zombie pic Train to Busan: Peninsula, out July 15.

So between then and the arrival of Tenet and Disney's Mulan in August, moviegoers will have to make do with holdover Hollywood titles (1917, Little Women, The Invisible Man, Bloodshot) and older re-releases (Jason Bourne, Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Midway).

That’s the plan for now.

Back in circulation: 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom' is one of many old movies returning to the cinemas when they reopen on July 13. Other old titles include 'Jason Bourne', 'Johnny English Strikes Back', 'Pacific Rim: Uprising' and 'Skyscraper'.

[Update: Inception will be shown in IMAX and standard 2D at 24 cinema locations.]
