Bruce Springsteen Faces Charges After Being Arrested For Drink-Driving In November

Bruce Springsteen was arrested in November for driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.

The 71-year-old singer was arrested on November 14 at Gateway National Recreation Area in New Jersey, according to the National Park Service, which confirmed that he received a ticket for driving while intoxicated, for reckless driving, and for drinking in an area where alcohol consumption is banned.

Springsteen lives on a large farm near the area, also known as Sandy Hook.

The Park Service said: "Springsteen was co-operative throughout the process."

Springsteen had been riding his motorcycle when he "was spotted by fans who asked him to pull over and take some pictures".

A source told the New York Post newspaper's Page Six column: "Bruce stopped, took the pictures, then a fan offered him a shot of liquor, which he took, while sitting on his bike, which was stationary.

"Park Police saw what happened and they immediately pulled Springsteen over as he drove away."

Springsteen's arrest prompted Jeep to pull its recent Super Bowl commercial, 'The Middle', starring the singer.

In the two-minute ad, one of the most-watched Super Bowl ads on YouTube, Springsteen appealed for national unity and hope amid the division and chaos caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The carmaker said it "would be inappropriate for us to comment on the details of a matter we have only read about and we cannot substantiate".

However, Jeep added: "It’s also right that we pause our Big Game commercial until the actual facts can be established. Its message of community and unity is as relevant as ever. As is the message that drinking and driving can never be condoned.”

A source told Springsteen’s hometown paper, the Asbury Press, that his blood alcohol content was .02, which is only a quarter of New Jersey’s limit.

The New York Daily News reported that no court date has been set for Springsteen’s appearance in what the newspaper described as New Jersey’s “enclave court,” or the federal version of traffic court. — BANG
