Ashley Judd has asked her sister to wash her hair for her as she recovers from shattering her leg.

The 52-year-old actress suffered a horrific fall in the Congo last month which left her limb broken in four places and, as she heals, the Divergent star has asked her sibling Wynonna Judd to give her locks a much-needed shampoo and rinse.

Country music star Wynonna told the New York Post newspaper's Page Six column: "I was looking up how to wash hair for someone who's lying down in bed because she texted me, 'Can you wash my hair?'"

Wyonna continued: "Therein lies the job of a big sister right there.

"She said, 'I have a request. Can you wash my hair?' I said, 'Sure', so I'm looking up ways to wash someone's hair lying down."

The 56-year-old singer revealed that she wept when saw Ashley for the first time since her accident and is "still processing" what happened.

Ashley almost lost her leg in the accident and she had to make an arduous 55-hour trip from the Congo to a hospital in South Africa to get emergency medical treatment.

Ashley's father Michael Ciminella flew out to be by her side at the South African hospital because he had already received his COVID-19 vaccine.

"He has been my rock, companion, resource, helped me listen to so many doctors, critical support system, and kind, loving presence as I have wept and wept," she wrote in a lengthy post thanking her father and the health care workers at Sunninghill Hospital.

"I arrived to them from DRC in terrible shape and my leg had no pulse," Ashley wrote. "I desperately needed a blood transfusion. Their sisters (nurses) are exemplary, technically top-notch, and they cared for the trauma in my body as well as my soul with equal proficiency."
