First Look: Amy Winehouse Biopic Back To Black From Director Of Fifty Shades Of Grey

The highly-anticipated Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black has dropped a first-look image of Marisa Abela as the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter superstar, a few days before production starts next week.

Per Variety, hailing from director Sam Taylor-Johnson, Back to Black follows Winehouse’s vibrant years living in London in the early 2000s and her intense journey to fame. Winehouse died in 2011 at age 27 after a long battle with booze and drugs.

Abela, 26, is best known for playing trader Yasmin Kara-Hanani in HBO’s Industry while Taylor-Johnson’s credits include Fifty Shades of Grey and the John Lennon biopic, Nowhere Boy, with her husband Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the title role.

Back to Black — named after the single and title of her second and final album — has the full support of Universal Music Group, Sony Music Publishing and The Amy Winehouse Estate.

In 2015, Winehouse’s story was made by Asif Kapadia into the Oscar-winning documentary Amy.
