Alec Baldwin is “shocked and saddened” after a prop gun he fired on the set of his new movie Rust accidentally fatally shot the project’s cinematographer.

The 63-year-old actor has broken his silence after it was confirmed that a firearm he discharged on the set of the Western movie resulted in the death of the 42-year-old director of photography Halyna Hutchins, as well as injuring 48-year-old director-and-writer Joel Souza.

In a series of tweets posted on Friday (Oct 22), Baldwin said: “There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours.

“I'm fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”

The horrifying incident took place at Bonanza Creek ranch near Santa Fe, New Mexico on Thursday (Oct 21), and a criminal investigation has been launched by Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office.

Processing the scene: Investigators arriving at the Santa Fe movie ranch the day after the shooting which left one dead and one injured after Alec Baldwin accidentally misfired a prop gun.



According to an affidavit filed by the Santa Fe Country's Sheriff Office (per The Hollywood Reporter), the gun handed to Alec was declared safe by the production's assistant director.

The AD did not know the prop gun was loaded with live rounds, according to a search warrant filed in a Santa Fe court. The records show that Hutchins was shot in the chest while Souza was standing behind her.

The warrant also indicated that Baldwin's blood-stained costume, the weapon used in the shooting were taken as evidence. Investigators also seized other prop guns and ammunition that were being used in the production. — BANG SHOWBIZ
