Adele's Weight Loss Instagram Photo: Is It Fat-Phobic To Praise Her?

Adele’s new weight loss photo turns out be somewhat controversial.

To celebrate her 32nd birthday on Tuesday (May 5), the ‘Hello’ singer who turned 32 on Tuesday (May 5), took to Instagram to thank fans for their well-wishes on her special day, she included a new picture of herself, revealing her slim figure. She captioned it: “Thank you for the birthday love. I hope you're all staying safe and sane during this crazy time. I'd like to thank all of our first responders and essential workers who are keeping us safe while risking their lives! You are truly our angels. 2020 okay bye thanks x (sic)."

Meanwhile, fans tried to process Adele’s new physique the only they could — by making memes.

However, some folks thought the memes, as frivolous and congratulatory as they may be, are sending out the wrong message. In fact, they are seen as “fat-shaming” and “fat-phobic”. Adele was once being criticised for being too heavy by the media and the late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld.

The Good Place’s Jameela Jamil tweeted: “Adele would hate this so much. I’m so glad she isn’t on here to see people weaponise her body against women. These memes are everywhere. This is so offensive. So destructive. So reductive. It encourages us to demonize and become afraid of food.”

Okay, what's the best way to respond Adele's transformation then?

In a CNN commentary, psychologist Peggy Drexler wrote: “Without a doubt, there's absolutely no good time for a female celebrity — or, let's face it, any woman — to debut a dramatic change in appearance, especially a big weight loss.

“Now is no better or worse than any other. There will always be criticism over kudos; there will always be chatter. Adele does not deserve our judgment. If anything, she deserves our empathy. It's hard enough to come to terms with your own body as a woman not in the spotlight; for a woman who is, and whose weight has been a focus of that spotlight, for so long, it might nearly be impossible.

“Like most of the rest of us right now, we can — we should — only assume: She's just doing the best she can with what she's got.”

So what's the story behind Adele's weight loss? It was recently claimed that Adele is in a "groove" with her new fitness regime. The singer has become increasingly health-conscious over recent months and a source close to the star praised her disciplined approach to her own wellbeing.

The insider shared: "She goes to different gyms. She goes early in the morning and meets with her trainer.

"She gets her workout in first thing. She works out for about an hour and leaves drenched in sweat and looking like she worked very hard."

Adele reportedly attends a couple of private fitness classes every week. The source added: "She's also staying active going on walks and getting in a lot of steps. She is in a groove. She looks great and has totally transformed her body. She is barely recognisable and is continuing to lose weight."

The singer’s friends have also claimed the star — who split from husband Simon Konecki in 2019 — revamped her life to be a "healthier mum" to her seven-year-old son Angelo.

One insider claimed: "She loves her mum life. Her whole mindset changed after she decided she wanted to be a healthier mom, and she never looked back. She feels great both physically and mentally. It was never about losing weight. She feels stronger, has more energy and acts very happy." — BANG
