Zhang Zetong Says There’s More Pressure Than Honour Winning Star Awards Best Newcomer Award

Just 15 months after being crowned Star Search 2019 champ, Zhang Zetong has landed his first acting award. The 27-year-old was named Best Newcomer at tonight’s (Apr 18) Star Awards for his role as the blunt Zhong Jianting in A Jungle Survivor.

Zetong, who was the frontrunner to win the nod, looked visibly surprised when his name was called. He says he didn’t have high expectations of taking home the prize tonight and even scrambled to put together his acceptance speech, which he admits was “gibberish”.

“I wasn’t this nervous during Star Search. I don’t know why I was so nervous just now. Maybe it’s ‘cos I only had one minute for my acceptance speech and I had a lot of people to thank before I got chased down the stage,” Zetong told reporters during a Zoom interview.
