Chinese actor Zhang Xincheng, aka Steven Zhang, 26, made his showbiz debut in 2016, and rose to popularity after starring in Hunan TV drama Go Ahead (2020).

Since then, he’s appeared in a steady stream of dramas, including The Day of Becoming You (2021) and The Heart of Genius (2022), with more projects slated to air in the near future.

He recently appeared in a Harper’s Bazaar shoot with Sun Qian, his co-star from upcoming movie Zhe Me Duo Nian (These Many Years).

However, a gif from the shoot revealed something strange.

Xincheng was seen squatting to lift Sun Qian up, and everything was cute and sweet
until he stood up to reveal misshapen buttocks.

Yes, you read that right.

The butt area of his pants formed an unnatural shape, leading netizens to speculate that the actor could’ve been wearing butt pads.

“Why are so many of our actors wearing butt pads, what kind of trend is this?” one netizen asked, while another wrote that they “wouldn’t be able to see him in the same way anymore”.

The topic of Xincheng’s butt quickly became viral, with some netizens even joking that he was wearing diapers.

Maybe he has a wallet in his back pocket?

Xincheng has since taken to Weibo to address the rumours.

Posting a gif of himself working out at a hack squat machine, the actor wrote: “Am I not squatting low enough??! Hack deep squats are still not enough to beat the Harbin wind in the end.”

Why wind? One theory why Xincheng's butt looked like that in the gif was that the winds at Harbin, where the shoot was done, was too strong.

Xincheng’s agency also attempted to cover his ass, quite literally, by posting a series of pics of the actor looking swole while working out.

His agency also released a statement, warning netizens against spreading fake news, and asked for any related content to be deleted. They also added that they had already collected evidence needed to prove that someone was trying to smear Xincheng’s name.
