Yu Menglong’s Mother Rumoured Dead Amid Ongoing Controversy Over Actor’s Death
The claims surfaced on Chinese social media said she died by suicide.
It’s been a month since Chinese actor Yu Menglong died in what authorities ruled an accidental fall. Yet, the suspicious circumstances surrounding his death continue to fuel conspiracy theories and widespread speculation.
Recently, new and unverified rumours have surfaced claiming that Yu Menglong’s mother has also passed away.
According to Chinese YouTuber Lao Deng (老灯), Menglong’s mother allegedly died by suicide.
He claimed she was rushed to the hospital for emergency resuscitation after a reported suicide attempt but sadly did not survive. Lao Deng added that he had “confirmed the information through multiple sources.”
The unverified news spread rapidly across Chinese social media, drawing intense public concern and debate.
Menglong’s mother had largely stayed out of the public eye following her son’s death, only releasing one statement shortly after the tragedy.
In a message posted on September 16, she wrote: “Recently, I’ve experienced immense grief. My beloved son Yu Menglong fell off a building due to an alcohol-related incident and has left us forever. This sudden tragedy has brought me great sorrow.”
She also addressed the conspiracy theories surrounding her son’s death, adding: “The authorities have already investigated the situation and reported it to me.”
At the time, she reiterated that her son’s death was caused by an alcohol-related accident.
However, in late September, a letter allegedly written by Menglong’s mother began circulating online. It suggested she believed foul play was involved in her son’s death. The authenticity of that letter remains unverified.
Following Lao Deng’s claims, a netizen on Threads also shared what they claimed to be the mother’s last-known whereabouts, saying she had travelled to Urumqi, Menglong’s birthplace, to bring his ashes home.
Others, however, have cast doubt on the reports, noting that no official confirmation has been issued.
As one netizen wrote: “In the end, no matter what happens, the outcome isn’t going to change.”
