Former TVB actress Yoyo Mung, who has largely stayed out of the spotlight since moving to Japan in 2021, is making her return to Hong Kong movies in upcoming film Good Trip.

The movie reunites her with Nick Cheung 26 years after they starred together in 2000 comedy The Teacher Without Chalk.

Yoyo, 53, who now runs a real estate agency in Fukuoka, recently appeared with Nick at a promotional event for the movie.

And judging from their banter, not much has changed between the old pals.

During the event, Yoyo spoke candidly about her weight.

“I don’t know why. I’ve actually tried really hard to eat less and diet, but I still put on weight. There’s nothing I can do about it,” she said.

Nick immediately reassured her: “It’s okay. You look good now.”

He then recalled just how skinny Yoyo was when they worked together all those years ago, joking that she was “as skinny as a vine” and looked like she was “just skin and bones”.

“It was terrifying,” he added.

Apparently, Yoyo could still polish off several lunchboxes despite her tiny frame.

“I was going through puberty then,” she quipped.

Yoyo agreed that she was indeed very thin back then, adding that she now finds it “quite scary” looking at old photos of herself.

Nick then assured her that she isn’t fat now and that she actually looks better with a little more weight on her.

Nice save.

Yoyo revealed that she agreed to appear in Good Trip with virtually “zero hesitation”.

Besides wanting to support the Hong Kong film industry, she said she had missed working with Nick.

She also praised him for creating a comfortable atmosphere on set, which helped her get into character quickly.

Nick joked that working together also gave them a chance to “get some exercise”, to which Yoyo promptly replied: “Yes, now I have a reason to lose some weight.”

Yoyo, who is married to Hong Kong star Ekin Cheng, left TVB in 2011 and has only taken on the occasional acting project in the years since.

She is best known for dramas such as Forensic Heroes (2006), Heart Of Greed (2007) and The Ultimate Crime Fighter (2007).

Yoyo thinks she looks better with a little bit of weight on her now.
Just like old times.
