YouTuber With Over 6mil Fans Takes Indefinite Break To Care For Ill Dog

Popular Chinese YouTuber Mr Gao has announced that he’ll be stepping away from creating new videos — and the reason is absolutely heartbreaking.

Best known for his channel (老高與小茉 Mr & Mrs Gao), which he runs with his wife, Mr Gao has built a devoted following of over 6.6 million subscribers. Their videos — covering everything from mysteries and conspiracies to life philosophies and urban legends — have long been a comforting corner of the Internet for many.

But what truly made the channel special wasn’t just the stories, it was Li Qi, the couple’s beloved brown pup who’s been by their side (and in nearly every video) for the past decade.

On October 2, Mr Gao shared that he’ll be taking an indefinite break to care for Li Qi, who has been diagnosed with lymphoma. Sadly, the prognosis isn’t good.

The announcement left fans heartbroken. For many, Li Qi isn’t just a dog, he’s part of the Mr & Mrs Gao family they’ve grown up with.

Mr Gao shared that they’re in close contact with vets and fully committed to Li Qi’s treatment. He asked for understanding from fans, saying that Li Qi’s health is their top priority right now.

“Thank you for every look, every word of concern, and every message you’ve sent Li Qi’s way. Please give us some time and space, so we can accompany him and make sure every step with Li Qi goes well,” he wrote.

Messages of support have since poured in from fans all over the world.

“Jiayou Li Qi,” and “We’ll wait for your return,” filled the comments section, with one longtime viewer writing, “I’ve been watching your channel since high school. Li Qi feels like an old Internet friend. I’m devastated.”

Others urged the couple to take all the time they need. “Don’t worry about YouTube,” one fan wrote. “Just focus on Li Qi — we’ll still be here when you’re ready.”
