Veteran actor Wong Yat-fei, 75, is known for his scene-stealing supporting roles in Stephen Chow movies, like Iron Head in Shaolin Soccer

So it would be real easy to assume that Yat-fei is on really good terms with the 60-year-old comedy legend right?

Sadly, according to Yat-fei, he and Stephen aren’t exactly buddy-buddy.

Stephen and Yat-fei got acquainted way before they became famous

Yat-fei and Stephen met when they were both nobodies.

According to Hongkong media, Yat-fei was 46 when he first got to know 30-year-old Stephen, and the latter would address him as “Fei Ge” [Older Brother Fei].

That actually went on for many years and Yat-fei always thought of Stephen as a really polite junior.

However, to Yat-fei’s dismay, things started to change after Stephen propelled to fame.

“He stopped addressing me as Fei Ge after he got famous, and would just call me by my name. Eventually he started referring to me as ‘Hey, that one over there’," lamented Yat-fei.

Perhaps acting opposite the comedian isn’t as fun as one would imagine

As if that wasn't disappointing enough, the deal breaker came when Stephen didn’t allow Yat-fei to have a stunt double in Shaolin Soccer, and wanted the actor to smash his head with prop glass bottle.

Even though Yat-fei’s head was already bleeding at that time, Stephen insisted that he move on to the next scene, where he had to get smashed by a real glass bottle.

Yat-fei was said to have been knocked unconscious on the spot when that happened.

“It was very tough, it was really torture. If I had a gun at that time I’d have shot him,” said Yat-fei.

After Stephen repeatedly ignored Yat-fei’s feelings and safety, the latter eventually made the decision that it’s better for them to go separate ways.

But that doesn’t mean he detests Stephen, though.

According to Yat-fei, what they have is more of a love-hate relationship.

He also acknowledged that he wouldn’t have achieved the fame he has now if not for Stephen.

“People who work with Stephen will get very nervous because he can be very crazy on set, sometimes it’s really like being in hell. But he comes from a good place, and just wishes for everyone to do their job well.”
