Woman Has To Reschedule Her Flight After Her Son, 3, Draws On Her Passport On The Day Of Travel
Imagine being excited for an overseas trip, only to have your plans derailed at the last minute because your most important document — your passport — is suddenly made invalid.
In a viral Threads post, a woman from Malaysia shared that she was close to tears after discovering that her three-year-old son had doodled all over her passport on the same day she was set to board her flight on June 6.
She shared a photo of a drawing of what looked to be a bird on one page, and scribbles on the next, both done in blue pen ink.
“I feel like crying. My flight is tonight, and while I was packing, my little one was busy scribbling all over my passport. I didn't notice when he had gotten hold of it,” she wrote.
Upon discovering her son's artwork, the woman went to the Immigration Department in Putrajaya, only to be told that her passport was already considered damaged. As such, she was not able to board her scheduled flight that night.
On top of that, it was a Saturday when the incident happened and she had to wait two days until Monday to apply for a replacement passport, as officers were not available over the weekend. She shared that her case was not as straightforward as a regular passport renewal and had to go through an investigating officer, similar to a lost passport case.
The woman revealed that she had no choice but to reschedule her flight to Monday, spending extra RM620 (S$196) on her new ticket.
Despite the inconvenience, she later said she has made peace with the incident and does not blame her three-year-old son, as he is still very young. Instead, she chooses to view it as a lesson in itself.
She added that her son still looks forward to going to the airport, as he does not yet understand that plans have changed because of what he did.
Her experience reminded netizens of the importance of keeping important personal documents away from young children, with one even jokingly saying she could “claim damages” from her son when he grows up.
