Woman’s Bracelet Gets Lodged In Her Flesh After Wearing It For 10 Years, Causing Severe Infection

A 33-year-old woman from Fujian, China, recently had to deal with a gnarly infection on her wrist, and it was all because of a cherished piece of accessory. 

The woman, who goes by her surname Gong, had worn a beaded bracelet for 10 years without ever taking it off. 

She gradually gained weight over the years, and though the bracelet became tighter and started digging into her skin, she did not think much of it. Gong subsequently noticed redness and itching around her wrist. Assuming it was just a skin irritation, she applied ointment.

Later on, her wrist became painful and swollen, and even started to ooze pus. 

When she inspected the affected area more closely, she found that both the bracelet and the beads attached to it had embedded in her flesh, and could no longer be removed. 

That’s when she realised things were bad, and needless to say, she was distressed. 

Gong sought medical help, and was diagnosed with a chronic bacterial infection as well as an overgrowth of granulation tissue caused by prolonged pressure and friction from the bracelet. 

According to her doctor, if her surgery had been delayed, the infection could have spread, potentially affecting her wrist function and in a severe case, even become life threatening. 

She had to undergo over an hour of surgery before doctors were able to successfully remove the bracelet and beads that were lodged in her flesh. They cleaned her wound and controlled her infection. 

Gong has since made a full recovery and has been discharged from the hospital. But honestly, we wouldn’t blame her if she never wore another bracelet again.
