Who Is That Woman With Eric Tsang When He Got Into A Car Crash In Japan On Xmas Day?
It's not what you think.
Talk about a series of unfortunate events. Hongkong star Eric Tsang was recently involved in a car accident in Hokkaido on Christmas Day. But that’s not the only reason the news made headlines across Asia. The car the 65-year-old comedian was driving had collided with a seven-seater which just so happened to be carrying the director of the Hong Kong police's criminal and security division. And while Eric had escaped unscathed from the crash, the cop, whose name is Li Zhi Heng, reportedly sustained a spine injury and had to be airlifted to the hospital for surgery.

While it was reported earlier that Eric, who was touring a town famous for being the birthplace of Japanese whiskey, was under investigation for drink driving, the comedian has since released a statement saying that that’s not the case. “The accident happened at noon, and I had not been drinking at that time. The local police also did not request for me to go for alcohol testing and all reports about me driving under the influence of alcohol are false,” said Eric. He also added that he had already given his statement to the police and that he can leave the country anytime.

But that’s not the end of the story. It was also revealed that there was a mystery woman in Eric’s car during the accident. Eric, in case you don’t know, has been married to his wife since 1989 though they’ve been living apart for years and she was definitely not in Japan during the time of the crash. The mystery woman’s identity has since been revealed to be make-up artist Vanus Li, who has been on holiday with Eric in Japan. She was also unhurt in the accident. And of course, tongues are now wagging about their relationship.

Turns out, Vanus is the wife of veteran make-up artist Gary Wan, who passed away from a heart attack in 2014. Eric and Gary had also been very good pals. At the latter’s wake, Eric said in his eulogy: “Lydia Sum now has someone to do her make-up in heaven! Rest in Peace, Gary! We will take good care of Vanus!”
Vanus is now not just Eric’s personal make-up artist but also his assistant and would help the star out with his daily errands. It’s said that Vanus used to be a hairstylist in TVB and is friends with many stars, like Charmaine Sheh and Alex To.

When Eric won Best Supporting Actor at the Hongkong Film Awards last year, Vanus was also there to show her support. And was possibly responsible for his make-up.

The accident reportedly took place in Otaru, Hokkaido, which, in recent years, has become a popular holiday destination for Hongkongers. It's said the day before Eric's crash, Otaru had recorded 23cm of snow.
