Which Star Used His Army Mate's Toothbrush To Scrub The Toilet Bowl?

“I was in Basic Military Training (BMT) and the sergeant made us fall in in the middle of the night in our physical training attire. We were supposed to wear white socks and I wore green socks instead as I was still half-asleep (laughs). As a result, my sergeant punished everyone by making them do push-ups while I stood in a corner and watched! I felt so guilty and embarrassed and kept apologizing to them the next day. Thankfully, they forgave me. It’s something that’s etched in my mind till now.”

“I thoroughly enjoyed my two years in army, I was one of those super ‘on’ guys. My most memorable experience was when I did my first parachute jump out of a plane. When they opened the aircraft door and I felt the cold wind gushing in, it was a strange and surreal feeling. I felt my mind go blank even though I had trained almost three months for that day. When I finally made the jump, it was the most beautiful moment of peace and silence I’ve ever experienced in my army life.”

“I was in Air Force in army and we had to come up with call signs so that others would identify us by that instead of our real names. I wanted to use the call sign ‘Gangsta’ but I was told I had to fight for the name instead of having it handed to me on a silver platter. So I chugged 1.5 litres of beer in under 20 seconds! It was a stressful night but it ended well, and I spent the rest of my army days with the cool and garang nickname (laughs).”

“I had a close guy friend who liked me when he was in army. I was already an actress then, so he pasted magazine cutouts of me on his locker and told me that they helped him get through his army days (laughs). He invited me to his prom night in army and I agreed. I think his army mates who didn’t know we were friends were surprised how he managed to ask an actress he liked to be his date (chuckles).”

“We had an army mate in camp who was super slack and always tried to get out of doing stuff. He’s always taking MCs. So the rest of us took ‘revenge’ on him by using his toothbrush to scrub the toilet bowl (guffaws). We also went to his bunk and flipped his cupboard upside down. We thought that was quite funny. He couldn’t flip it back afterwards ’cos it was too heavy! (Laughs).”

“I was seeing a guy for six months before he enlisted but we survived the two-and-a-half years he was in army. We dated for a total of five years. He was a commando and I was proud of that. Even though he didn’t have that much time for me, I was fine with it ’cos I’m someone who treasures my personal space and time.”

“It was my first day of Basic Military Training (BMT), and I was getting ready to sleep when I heard tapping sounds on the window pane. I felt a little scared and thought that perhaps it was our officer trying to prank us, but when I looked at the ground, there was no shadow! I was so spooked out but I forced myself to sleep!”

“I was in the Singapore Police Force when I was serving National Service, and there was a case where my partner and I had to tackle a mentally unsound man who was threatening to hit people with a kettle in Alexandra Hospital. I spent two hours negotiating with the man in Hokkien and we eventually managed to subdue and handcuff him. It was very dangerous as he could have attacked me any minute!”
