Taiwanese Actress Turns To Adult Live Streaming After Being Cheated And Left With Debt

Taiwanese actress Wang Liren, best known for her breakout role in 2000 drama Spicy Teacher, has recently drawn attention for a dramatic shift in her career path.
The 50-year-old is now making waves for her appearance on adult live streaming platform Swag, where she has appeared in revealing outfits.
The change comes amid serious financial strain. Liren was reportedly left with debts of NT$5 million (about S$203.7K) after lending her name to a friend’s restaurant business, only for the friend to flee during a financial crisis.
With creditors pursuing legal action, she has since turned to live streaming and online sales to make ends meet.
Her first live stream, featuring bold and revealing appearances, quickly drew attention. She later shifted to more health- and lifestyle- driven content like yoga, though still marked by her candid and unfiltered style.
The transformation has sparked mixed reactions. Some netizens labelled her as having “fallen,” pointing to her past, from her high achieving background to her earlier showbiz success, as a contrast to her current situation.
One viewer who had followed her for 15 years even shared that it was “hard to watch” her journey unfold this way.
Liren, however, brushed off the concern, saying: “I’m living well, no need to feel bad.”
The comment struck a chord, drawing widespread engagement and praise for her courage and resilience.
“She may not be great at repaying debts, but she has the courage to face them,” said one netizen.

Born and raised in the United States, Liren graduated from New York’s prestigious Barnard College and is said to come from a well-to-do background.
She first entered the entertainment industry after returning to Taiwan for a summer job, where she was discovered by a production team and cast in Spicy Teacher, which propelled her to fame.
