Taiwanese Singer Waa Wei, 42, Is Dating Influencer 21 Years Her Junior; Relationship Announcement By Her Agency Included A Disclaimer

Taiwanese singer Waa Wei, 42, recently announced through her agency that she is currently dating 21-year-old Taiwanese influencer and artist Ian Chen. 

This was after rumours had been swirling around the couple, who were photographed holding hands at a Yoshimoto Nara exhibition. 

But this was no straightforward relationship announcement, with the agency having to clear up several rumours.

"Our artiste Waa Wei is currently in a relationship," read the statement.

"Both parties were single before they began dating. This is not a secret, and [she] was not hiding it. As for the online speculations, we understand where people are coming from, but Waa Wei was not a third party in anybody's relationship, and had no intention of hurting anyone."

Rumours that Waa Wei was a third party in Ian's relationship stemmed from a post made by his ex-girlfriend, Taiwanese influencer Raewyn. 

Raewyn, who confirmed her breakup with Ian on Instagram on July 27, wrote: "Whenever Waa Wei posts Ian on social media, [I see images of] his silhouette, his purple-painted nails, his clothes, his birthday, his first name, and the sunglasses he wears. They stab at my heart again and again."

She also posted a set of photos she took with Ian, dropping hints about his new relationship. "We've broken up. He often appears in someone else's updates now," she captioned.

However, Raewyn later deleted the post, and in her IG stories, wrote: "Earlier on, I was not clear on the situation and made a post while feeling emotional. Thanks everyone for your concern, please be kind and not affect anyone else."

Raewyn's post led many to suspect that Waa Wei had came between the influencers while they were still together, leading her agency to clarify that the rumours are untrue. 

Aside from the speculation, many were also shocked by the age gap between Waa Wei and her new beau. 

Netizens said they look like "mother and son", with many surprised that the singer would date someone half her age. 

"I thought Ian was Waa Wei's child... turns out they are really in a relationship," read one of many similar comments. 

Waa Wei was previously married to Taiwanese actor Christopher Lung. The pair, who have a six-year-old son together, divorced in 2022 after four years of marriage. 

Although Waa Wei has not publicly responded to the online chatter regarding her relationship, she seemingly alluded to the situation on her Hit FM radio show on July 28, telling her listeners: "Thank you. I've read all your messages. Sorry for making everyone worry, and see you tomorrow."
