“You Should Retire When It’s Time”: Vivian Chow, 55, Criticised For “Out-Of-Tune” Performance At US Concert
So harsh.
Hong Kong actress-singer Vivian Chow, 55, recently held her A Long and Lasting Love concert in the United States. While her return to the stage was highly-anticipated, the reviews are in and they are less than flattering, to say the least.
After the concert, fans shared clips of her performance online, and many noticed that Vivian had difficulty hitting the high notes and that her voice was unstable.
They also remarked that she had gone out-of-tune several times, with some of them calling her performance “substandard”.
The clips have gone viral on Chinese social media site Douyin, and let's just say the comments there weren't kind either.
“My gosh, why does she sound like that. She tried her best but she doesn’t have the ability to sing well anymore,” wrote one netizen, while another said "“How can she still hold concerts if she sings like this?”
Some even went as far as to say that she should retire.
“If you’re old, you’re old… You should retire when it’s time to do so. This concert has ruined what good impression we have of Vivian," said one nasty netizen.
Many also compared Vivian’s performance to George Lam and Sally Yeh’s. The showbiz couple, who are 75 and 61 respectively, recently held a concert in Zhuhai, China to rave reviews.
The Cantopop stars, who are known for their superb singing skills, even danced during their concert, leading many to comment that Vivian’s gig paled in comparison.
“I just saw [the clip] of Vivian’s concert, Sally is so much better and she is much older than Vivian right?" said one netizen.
There was one netizen who tried to look at the bright side of the situation, writing: “Vivian’s singing is really unremarkable compared to Sally's. But at least it proved that she sang live. That’s already much better than other singers!”
