TVB drama fans of a certain vintage will remember popular 1993 sci-fi adventure series The Legendary Ranger.

Adapted from Hongkong novelist Ni Kuang’s Dr Yuen novel series, the hit drama featured a star-studded cast including Heavenly King Leon Lai, Michelle Reis, Catherine Hung, Athena Chu and Faye Wong. No wonder it’s being referred to in certain media as the “Drama With Highest Face Value In History” or TV drama serial with the most attractive cast, basically.

Following the passing of Ni Kuang on July 3, TVB announced that it will air late-night re-runs of The Legendary Ranger.

The news was met with much delight by fans, who were especially excited to see actresses Michelle and Catherine, who played the love interests of the titular Yuen Chan Hap (Leon), a debonair surgeon who also happens to solve sci-fi mysteries on the side.

When the drama first aired, fans were split into two camps, one in support of Michelle’s character cult agent character, Wong Kuen, and the other, the hero’s girlfriend Lam Ling, played by Catherine.

Michelle Reis: Then vs Now

Fans and media have pointed out that the actresses have barely aged since they starred in the drama almost three decades ago.

We are hardly surprised considering how Michelle, who quit showbiz after tying the knot with tycoon Julian Hui in 2008, is the poster girl for eternal youth.

In fact, netizens recently commented how the 52-year-old looks just 28.

Catherine, too, is known for her ageless beauty.

The 51-year-old returned to the limelight last year, hosting Chinese reality show Qing Chi Fan De Jie Jie (loosely translated as “Sisters Who Buy Us Meals”) with her BFFs Ada Choi, Athena Chu and Monica Chan.
