Guess it just wasn’t meant to be.

In October last year, Hong Kong media reported that Hong Kong actresses Charmaine Sheh, 47, and Tavia Yeung, 43, were set to have a long-awaited onscreen reunion in upcoming TVB drama News Queen.

And let's just say that fans were more than excited. After all, both stars were absolutely electric when they appeared opposite each other in the 2009 TVB classic Beyond the Realm of Conscience.

Fans were also excited to see Charmaine in another TVB drama again after six years. Charmaine has found success in the Mainland in recent years, and has turned her focus to Chinese dramas.

Unfortunately, it seems like Tavia’s no longer part of the cast, and will be replaced by TVB actress Samantha Ko, 36.

TVB actress Regina Ho, 28, will also be joining the cast, while Kenneth Ma, 48, is rumoured to be the male lead.

It's just Charmaine for now.

According to an anonymous source, Tavia rejected the role as she felt that the script was not suitable for her.

Tavia also shared more in a statement: “They did contact me, but I’m not clear of what happened after that. I left it up to my manager to discuss things. As for the role, if I’m offered a suitable one, there will definitely be opportunities for me to collaborate [with Charmaine again]. Even if we can’t work together this time, there’ll definitely be another chance in the future”.

Separately, Regina shared in an interview that she’s “very happy” to be able to work with Charmaine.

“I did hear the executive producer talking about the story and styling [for the drama], but I’m not clear about the exact details. However, I’m very happy to be able to work with my senior, especially Charmaine. I never thought I would have the chance to do so. This is really a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” she said.

As for Kenneth, he shared that his casting has not been confirmed yet, but he’s really looking forward to working with Charmaine again.

“The company has not formally confirmed [my casting] yet, but I hope it’s me! The last time I worked with Charmaine was five to six years ago, for Bet Hur. If it’s really me who’s playing the male lead, I’ll be really happy. Filming with her is really enjoyable, I hope it’s me [who’s the male lead]!” he said.
