What a triumphant return it has been for Singaporean singer Tanya Chua.

The 47-year-old singer, who released her 12th album Depart in 2021 after a three-year hiatus, is up for eight awards  the most among the nominees  at the 33rd Golden Melody Awards.

The list of nominees for this year’s ceremony, which will be held on July 2, was released yesterday (May 18).

The last time Tanya was nominated at the Golden Melody Awards (GMA) nomination was in 2015, when she was nominated six times for her album Aphasia.

Her last GMA win was in 2012, when she bagged Best Mandarin Female Singer.

Definitely something worth celebrating.

This year, Tanya is nominated for: Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Mandarin Album, Best Composer, Best Album Producer, Best Mandarin Female Singer, Best Vocal Album Recording.

The lyricist for 'Into The Wild', the third song on Depart, Chow Yiu Fai, was also nominated for Best Lyricist for his work on the song.

In an Instagram post, Tanya shared more about her thoughts upon finding out that she was nominated for so many awards.

Congrats!

“I received this news while I was in isolation, my soul that was trapped began to soar once more!” she exclaimed.

Tanya added that she was so moved, she began crying, and developed goosebumps all over her body.

She went on to share that she’s very proud to have been nominated for Album of the Year, as well as Best Vocal Album Recording, describing it as “a huge encouragement” for herself when it comes to pursuing self-improvement.

“I’m very happy to see that 'Into The Wild', which was written by Teacher Chow Yiu Fai, was nominated as well. To me, the lyrics are god-like, something to give back to the earth and mankind. A round of applause to all the musicians, technical staff, teachers, [as well as featuring artists] Carla Bruni and Ayanga. 8 nominations, this is [the work of] every one’s combined energy!” she wrote.

Finally, Tanya also made a special shoutout to composer Ricky Ho, who worked to integrate an “unbelievable orchestral landscape” into two songs on ‘Depart’— Bluebirds, and Breakdown.

“Although it’s a pity that you were not nominated for Best Composer, but having taken on the challenge of integrating a symphony-like movie soundtrack into pop music for Bluebirds and Breakdown, it’s a great achievement in itself!" she wrote.
