Remember Taiwanese singer Tank, who shot to fame in the early noughties off the back of hit songs like 'Three Kingdom Love', 'Personal Angel' and ‘Thousand Year Tears’?

Maybe this vid will jog your memory?

The 40-year-old disappeared from the public eye a few years later. It was revealed after that that Tank had taken a step back from his career due to his declining health, as he was battling a hereditary heart condition.

In 2017, he staged a comeback under his real name, Lu Jianzhong. He shared that he had descended into alcoholism during his break, and that he “lost nine years of his life” to alcohol as a result. He continued working as a singer, making occasional appearances on variety shows and posting song covers online.

However, after releasing his last song, ‘Wonderful’ in December 2021, it was radio silence from the singer once more.

The return of Tank.

Now, some five months later, Tank has resurfaced again, this time on Weibo.

In a lengthy post, the singer announced that he has since signed with Tencent Music, and will be releasing a new song shortly.

He first thanked everyone for all the support they’ve shown towards him and his songs since the release of his first song in 2003.

“Towards the end of 2007, my hereditary heart condition forced me to temporarily put my music composing work on hold. Despite successfully inserting a defibrillator in my body, the doctors told me that it would not fully resolve my issue, and that even singing loudly would cause harm to my body,” he wrote in his post.

He then shared that when he was at his lowest, it was his daughter, 10-year-old Hua Hua, who lifted his spirits. Tank previously revealed that Hua Hua’s mum had divorced him in 2014, due to his alcoholism. He only managed to regain partial custody of his daughter after turning his life around.

Let's talk about trees.

“After recuperating and receiving treatment over the past few years, I have gradually turned my focus to doing more for the less-privileged. I volunteer as a music teacher for kids in rural mountains, and occasionally busk on the streets too. As long as there’s music, I think that [life] will be blissful and meaningful. After having my daughter, life’s become more brilliant as well,” he wrote.

“Every day, I fetch my daughter to and from school, and return home to cook. Spending time with my family has allowed me to understand how to cherish life,” he added.

Tank shared that he wrote his new song, ‘Stubborn Tree’, in hope that it would bring light and comfort to the lives of others.

“To me, my daughter is my spring, and for my daughter, I will grow into a stubborn tree,” he said.
