Taiwanese Star Hsieh Ying Hsuan Apologises For Swearing On Stage When She Won Golden Bell Best Actress Award
There were several firsts for this year’s Golden Bell Awards.
It is the first time the awards, which is often referred to as Taiwan's answer to the Emmys, was held over two ceremonies on October 21 and 22, and Chen Ya Lan became the first woman to be crowned Best Actor in a Television Series. She won the award for her performance as a Qing dynasty emperor in The Journey to Taiwan.
This year’s ceremony, though, will probably be best remembered for Best Actress winner Hsieh Ying Hsuan’s swearing on stage.
The 42-year-old, who was nominated for two dramas, Paradise on the Fourth Floor and The Making of an Ordinary Woman 2, won the award for her performance in the former. However, when giving her acceptance speech, she thanked the scriptwriter for The Making of an Ordinary Woman 2.
When she realised her boo-boo, she yelled "Oh, F***!", prompting the audience to break into rapturous cheers.
After composing herself, Ying Hsuan apologised to the director of Paradise on the Fourth Floor Chen Hsin Yi and attempted to carry on with her speech.
The next day, Ying Hsuan took to Facebook to apologise for her faux pas, writing: “First of all, I'm would like to apologise to all the parents. I have set a very bad example, please forgive me!"
She also thanked Hsin Ling for coming to her rescue, as well as the cast and crew of both dramas.
