Taiwanese Rapper Shou's Favourite Thing About Singapore Is Not The Food Or The People But Halloween Horror Nights?

Those of you who have visited a country with a friend who is a local would know that you probably don't have to plan the itinerary.

If your friend is a good host, all you need to do is sit back, relax and wait for them to take you to the places with the nicest food and best tourist attractions.

That's how Taiwanese rapper Shou feels every time he visits Singapore and it's thanks to his W0LF(S) bandmate, Qiu Fengze, who is Singaporean and an "amazing host", according to Shou. 

Well, except last weekend when he was in Singapore alone for the YES 933 Hits Fest.

When 8days.sg met him prior to the show, we couldn't help but notice the 30-year-old behaving a little less hyper than usual.

Was it because he didn't have the rest of W0LF(S) with him? The band was formed in 2019 and apart from Shou and Fengze, also includes Nine Chen, Lai and Huang Weijin.

"Yes, it feels quite different," said Shou, who recently got engaged to Taiwanese influencer Fan Fan Chiao. "Travelling with them makes everything very fun. And I feel more relaxed when performing ‘cos I have fewer parts."

That said, Shou doesn't miss his bandmates because he "sees them too often". Well, except at night when he goes back to an empty hotel room. 

"When I return to my hotel after work, I would think: “We ended so early today'. If they were here, we would probably be playing till 4am," he laughed.

4am?! Would they still have the energy to work the next day?

"Of course!" said the rapper while his manager chimed in: "They always play and work at the same time."

8DAYS.SG: The last time you came to Singapore was with W0LF(S) in October. Was Fengze a good host?

SHOU: He was! He drove his own car and took us out to eat. Even when I came to Singapore last month for a vacation and he was in Taiwan, he still planned my itinerary for me. 

What was your favourite Singapore food?

He took us to eat some very yummy nasi lemak and bak kut teh. Those were my favourites. Oh, and roti prata as well! 

Did you go anywhere that was exceptionally memorable?

The last time I came to Singapore I happened to be down with a bad fever so I didn’t get to play much. But I went to the Halloween Horror Nights. The parties are not too different from Taiwan but we don’t have iconic theme parks like Universal Studios (laughs). 

I’ve been to Halloween Horror Nights twice, but I think last year’s was more fun (laughs). I was there with W0LF(S) and our entire team was very scared so I enjoyed scaring them. I would suddenly tug at their legs and they would fall (chuckles). 

Who was the most timid?

Lai and Wei Jin, I think. I can't really remember 'cos I was too busy scaring everyone. It’s more fun if you go with me. I’ll make your visit worth the money (laughs).

Is there anything else you’d like to try or visit in Singapore?

I’ve always wanted to visit the Singapore Zoo. The last time I came with W0LF(S) it was raining so we couldn’t go. This time my schedule is completely packed as well so I can’t go either.

Did you tell Fengze you were coming to Singapore this time?

No, I didn’t bother him ‘cos he’s been busy preparing for his concert. He just needs to take care of himself for now (laughs).

Will you bring anything from Singapore back to surprise him?

I won’t. It’s like if someone went to my hometown and got me something I’d think: 'What are you doing?' (Laughs) I mean, he comes back very often!

Congrats on your recent engagement! Why did you decide to propose now?

Actually there was no particular reason, I just felt that the time was right and I am ready. 

You mentioned that you came to Singapore earlier this month, so did you propose here?

I proposed in the Maldives then after that we came to Singapore ‘cos Singapore happened to be between the Maldives and Taiwan and we had to transit here.

Why didn’t you propose here then?

That's because here is not as pretty as the Maldives. (Laughs) It’s true, right? I wanted a sea view and an empty beach.... or do you guys have it here too? 

It was partly also because the Maldives is Fan Fan’s dream country. She always wanted to go there. 

Have you guys started planning for your wedding?

Not yet. I first have to earn back the money I’ve spent on the proposal. I spent too much (laughs). We haven’t decided on a date for the wedding too. 

Would you consider coming to Singapore for your honeymoon?

I come to Singapore too often! (Laughs) Singapore is great for Halloween though!
