Taiwanese Music Ceremony Mistakenly Announces Wrong Winner For Best Singer-Songwriter Award

Then, when the time came for the big announcement, a crew played the wrong video, which saw Yoyo announcing Taiwanese-American singer-songwriter ØZI, 24, as the winner.

Elated, ØZI went up on stage and gave his acceptance speech. However, once he left the stage, host Patty Lee returned to the stage to apologise, revealing that the wrong video was played and that they had announced the wrong winner.

Cue the crickets.

It turned out that the real winner was fellow Taiwanese singer-songwriter Yellow Huang, 29. The mix-up caused a big uproar online with netizens criticising the awards ceremony for making such a grave mistake.

In an interview backstage after his win, Yellow shared: “I couldn’t find [ØZI] just now! This is really quite awkward. If he is still around, I would want to ask him to come [up here] too, but I couldn’t find him, this is really quite awkward.”

However, it seems that there are no hard feelings between the two artistes.

After the ceremony, both ØZI and Yellow shared a photo of the two of them together. ØZI also revealed more in his caption, writing that while the “incident" was awkward for him, he's not hurt by the mix-up.

“I've always been confident in each and every one of my works, so to me, whether I win an award or not, is not important.” he wrote.

“Like I said on stage, these award ceremonies are one of the rare opportunities to gather all musicians together in a grand ceremony. Every time I see people, both on-and-off stage, congratulating each other, filled with positive energy, it reminds me, that there are still many people who are continuing to walk this path with me. That’s what matters to me,” he went on to add.
