Taiwanese Actress Alyssa Chia Was Almost Abducted By A Paedophile When She Was A Child

When they passed by the original Din Tai Fung shop, Alyssa pointed out that the founder, Yang Bing Yi, used to be classmates with her father in high school. The 45-year-old actress also shared that her father used to run a restaurant that was bigger and more popular than Din Tai Fung at that time, but he had to shut it down due to his poor health.

“I ran into Uncle Yang and he told me that it’s a shame [that my dad’s restaurant closed down],” Alyssa said. “He said they used to get along quite well when they were in school together.”

The pair’s visit to a park on Yongkang Street prompted Alyssa’s terrifying tale of narrowly escaping the clutches of a paedophile when she was about five or six years old.

“It’s been completely renovated now, but there used to be a slide here with a small public toilet next to it,” she recalled. But once, when she was playing there with an older male cousin, things got really creepy.

“I remember a man grabbing me from the slide and dragging me into the toilet. Fortunately, my cousin saw it and pulled me out before screaming for help. I cried very hard, and that’s all I remember. I later found out from my mother that it was a pervert who preys on kids.”

Shudders.

The memory still haunts Alyssa, who is mum to three girls. Her eldest daughter Angelina Sun, whom she had with her ex-husband Charles Sun, turns 15 this year, while Bubu and Bobo — from her current marriage to 37-year-old Taiwanese actor Xiu Jie Kai — are four and three respectively.

“In the past, it’s not really something parents think much about,” she mused. “Parents were busy, so they just let their children run about, but every time I come back here, I’m always reminded of that incident.”
