T.O.P Arrested For Marijuana Use

He faces up to five years jail.

T.O.P Arrested For Marijuana Use

Big Bang's T.O.P has been arrested for smoking marijuana, according to the Seoul police today (June 1). The 29-year-old, who is currently serving military service in the police force, tested positive for marijuana use after being investigated for suspicion of drug use.

While it was not confirmed whether he was a frequent marijuana user, police reports stated that he smoked weed on three different occasions, between last October 9 to 12.

What might pique the interest of die-hard fans even more than his possible incarceration is the allegation that he was smoking weed with a woman in his house in Seoul. The unidentified woman, who reports say was in her 20s, was a 'trainee' in a not-yet-confirmed talent agency.

T.O.P's agency YG Entertainment has issued a formal apology: "It is true that T.O.P smoked marijuana before the enlistment and we sincerely apologise for the outcome. The rapper has undergone a full police investigation, and is regretting his wrongdoing."

Will T.O.P face the full brunt of the punishment, which is a five-year jail term or a fine of up to 50 mil won (S$61,760)? Or will he get away like his childhood friend and band mate G-Dragon, who tested positive for marijuana use in 2011 but was eventually let off?

Two other young Asian stars who got into trouble for getting high:

In 2014, actor Jaycee Chan, Jackie Chan's son was caught smoking marijuana in Beijing. After 148 days in detention, he was sentenced to six months in prison and fined about S$400. Since his release, the 34-year-old's relationship with his father, previously estranged, has become stronger. Chan senior has hinted that his son might be writing the script to the sequel of his 2012 movie Chinese Zodiac. In 2015, perhaps putting his personal experience with the damaging power of drugs to good use, Jackie was named Singapore's first celebrity anti-drug ambassador.
Jaycee was nabbed along with You Are the Apple of My Eye star Kai Ko, who served only 14 days of detention before being released. After his rehabilitation, the 25 year-old has been feverishly trying to "clean up" his image... and it seems to be working. For his stellar turn in indie movie The Road to Manderlay, he was nominated for Best Actor at the Golden Horse Awards last year.
